SUDBURY, Ont. (November 4, 2017) – Fifth year guard NICOLE MORRISON matched her career-high with 25 points as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Laurentian Voyageurs 81-75 on Saturday night.

Morrison, a native of Hamilton, was a force all over the court for the Hawks as they picked up their second win of the season. She also added eight assists, five rebounds and three steals and was particularly effective in getting to the free-throw line where she made 12 of her 14 attempts.

The performance leaves her just eight points shy of 1000 for her career, a mark that only three Golden Hawks have reached before.

Second year guard Rachel Woodburn of Ajax, Ont., also had a career night for the purple and gold and was particularly strong in spurring Laurier’s fourth-quarter rally in which they outscored the Voyageurs 24-8. The psychology major poured in 13 of her career-high 17 points in the frame to go along with her five rebounds and two steals in the contest.

Lauren Jamieson of Oakville, Ont., also finished in double figures, chipping in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Bailey Tabin of Saskatoon, Sask., led the way for Laurentian as she finished with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Although the Hawks were outplayed for a majority of the contest, the team did well to manage the ball on the road. Laurier turned the ball over just eight times in the game compared to 15 by the Voyageurs which resulted in 17 points for the purple and gold.

Laurier’s bench, led by Woodburn and Jamieson, also greatly outplayed Laurentian as they outscored the home team 43-17.

With the win, the Hawks move to 2-1 on the season while Laurentian falls to 1-1.

Laurier will now return home to prepare for their home opener on Friday, November 10 when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Athletic Complex. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
