WATERLOO, Ont. (October 30, 2017) - Men’s rugby fly-half Nathan Roberts
of Waterloo, Ont. and cross country runner Bettina Boucher
from Whitby, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 29, 2017.
Roberts put up an impressive performance as the Hawks played in the OUA quarter-finals this past Saturday. The fourth-year srts major lead the Hawks to a critical 36-12 victory over the Western Mustangs to capture a playoff win for the first time in modern team history. During the game, the Waterloo, Ont. native scored one try and three conversions. With his performance, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's rugby team advances to meet the top team in the OUA this season, the Queen’s Gaels, in the semifinals.
This is Roberts’ first time earning Male Athlete of the Week Honours.
Boucher, a third-year business and math double major, ran a strong course when the purple and gold partook in the OUA Championships in Windsor, Ont. In the 8km race, the Whitby, Ont. native finished 12th overall with a posted time of 28:51.1. Her performance was rewarded as she took home OUA All-Star second team recognition, making her the second cross country runner from Laurier, male or female, to earn the honours. With this win, the cross-country team will head to the University of Victoria for the U SPORTS Championships.
This is Boucher’s first time earning Female Athlete of the Week Honours.
