WBASK take four wins in non-conference play
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 24th, 2017) - Between September 28th and October 20th, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team played six non-conference games in preparation for the 2017/2018 season. The Hawks played the first two games at home before taking a trip out west for three games in Alberta. Following one game in Claresholm, Alberta and two games in Calgary, the Hawks headed home for the preseason finale.
Laurier finished non-conference play with a 4-2 record. They won their first two games; beating the Manitoba Bisons 91-78 and the Macewan Griffins 80-65, before losing a close affair against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, falling 80-77 in Lethbridge, Alberta. In Calgary, the Hawks returned to their winning ways, beating British Columbia Okanagan 76-59 and Mount Royal 95-69. Finally, upon returning home, the Hawks faced Concordia and fell to the Stingers 65-59.
On the court, reliable scoring threat and fifth-year guard NICOLE MORRISON (Hamilton, Ont.) led the team in scoring throughout non-conference play. Meanwhile, first-years Maya Day (Kitchener, Ont.) and Celina Elliott (Hamilton, Ont.) were given ample opportunity to gain valuable experience, in anticipation of the players earning playing time and contributing during their rookie campaigns.

The Hawks regular season opener is Saturday, October 28th at 2pm against the Brock Badgers. The game is to be played in St. Catharines as Laurier will open the season on a three-game road trip before the home opener on Friday, November 10th against Ottawa.
