Arndt, Miller named Athletes of the Week
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 23, 2017)- Men’s football quarterback Tristan Arndt of London, Ont. and women’s hockey goalie Hannah Miller from Georgetown, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 22, 2017.

In what was his first career start in purple and gold, men’s football quarterback Tristan Arndt of London, Ont., put up an impressive performance in the Hawks’ last regular season game of the year. The second year Kin/Phys Ed. major lead the Hawks to a critical 40-15 victory over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon. During the game, Arndt set a career-high passing 213 yards as he went 18-for-23, with three touchdowns. Moreover, the rookie continued his game success as he led the team in rushing yards for the day, with 65 yards on three carries, bolstered by a 53-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave Laurier a 21-7 lead. With the win, the Golden Hawks finished the regular season with a 6-2 record, to place them at second in the OUA. Thanks to this positioning, the purple and gold enjoy a bye-week and head straight to hosting semi-finals on November 4th, where they will take on the highest seeded opponent coming out of quarter-finals.

This is Arndt’s first time earning Male Athlete of the Week Honours.

Miller, a first year Communications major, stood strong between the pipes during her first career start for both the Hawks, and the OUA, on Sunday night when the purple and gold faced off against the Ryerson Rams. In this, Miller posted her first career shutout as the Hawks were scoreless through three periods, forcing the game to overtime, and an eventual shootout to break the deadlock. Despite a 1-0 loss to the Rams, Miller blocked 34 saves on the night, and ensured Laurier, now 0-0-1-1 on the season, their first point of the year.

This is Miller’s first time earning Female Athlete of the Week Honours.
