WATERLOO, Ont. (October 23, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s rugby team is heading into their first playoff appearance in two years on a high note following a big 66-0 win over the RMC Paladins on Friday night at University Stadium.
After having already secured their playoff berth, Friday night’s game was all about securing playoff positioning for the Hawks and Laurier came flying out of the gate. Aidan Nesbitt
of Georgetown, Ont., scored a pair of tries in the opening 25 minutes of play to help open the floodgates for the purple and gold. Laurier would proceed to score six tries in the opening 40 minutes to lead 38-0 at the break.
The second half was more of the same for Laurier as they cruised to their fifth win of the year.Nathan Roberts
of Waterloo, Ont., led the Hawks in points on the evening as he had a try and seven conversions for 19 points while seven other Hawks had single tries in the victory.
With the win, Laurier secured fifth place in the OUA and will head on the road for a quarter-final showdown with the Western Mustangs on Saturday, October 28. The two teams didn’t meet during the regular season which sets up a very intriguing matchup.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Alumni Field in London.
