WATERLOO, Ont (October 22, 2017) – Under sunny skies at University Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s soccer team and the Brock Badgers played to a 0-0 draw.

The Hawks dominated the play, creating a variety of scoring chances but Brock keeper Anthony Stott (Stratford, Ont.) held the fort. For the game, the Hawks generated 15 shots as Stott made nine saves. On the other end, the Badgers totalled nine shots and Laurier keeper Rocco Strazzella (Woodbridge, Ont.) made three saves.

Laurier had nine corner kicks compared to the Badgers who only had one. Due to corners, in addition to multiple free kick opportunities, the Hawks had several heading opportunities. Stott made some tremendous saves, on multiple occasions stretching his arm out to punch the ball over the bar. Stott also made a key save on a Laurier penalty kick in the first-half.

Brock midfielder Andrew Baldin (Niagara Falls, Ont.) received a second yellow card in the 87th minute for a reckless tackle, earning a red card and an ejection.
The game was the regular-season finale for both teams. With the result, the Badgers finish the season at 20 points, while the Golden Hawks finish with 17. The Badgers will enter the OUA West playoffs next weekend while the Hawks unfortunately finish two points back of the final playoff berth.

At halftime, Laurier’s senior players were given a round of applause by the home crowd, including fifth-year players Brady Kelly (Guelph, Ont.), Trystan Martin (Toronto, Ont.) and Joren Ramsay Marshall (Brampton, Ont). Additionally, graduating fourth-years Gurjinder Garcha (Burlington, Ont.), Ryan Mandryk (Ancaster, Ont.), Luca Pietropaolo (Woodbridge, Ont.), and this season’s team-leading scorer Nikola Miokovic (Kitchener, Ont.) were honoured as well.
