SUDBURY, Ont. (October 22, 2017) - On Saturday night, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey team earned their third win of the season, defeating the Laurentian Voyageurs 5-3.

The Voyageurs opened the scoring at 12:47 in the first period, courtesy of Richard Therrien (Hearst, Ont.) on assists by Xavier Couture (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.) and Nicolas Dionne (Amos, Que.).

The Hawks found the equalizer 47 seconds into the second period as Lucas Batt (Lewisporte, Nfld.) scored his first of the season. The second period scoring continued at the 5:58 mark when Jeremy Pullara (Vaughn, Ont.) set up Brandon Robinson (Newmarket, Ont.) who found the back of net. Just before the end of the period, the Hawks added another goal thanks to Anthony Conti (North Vancouver, B.C.), off an assist from Will Cook (Port Stanley, Ont.).

Laurier extended their lead to 4-1 at 3:26 in the third period as Mitch Wright (Chesley, Ont.) and Batt connected for the second time in the contest.

Laurentian countered with Blake Forslund (Owen Sound, Ont.) scoring at 9:55 to make it 4-2.

However, the Hawks had an answer in the form of an empty netter which Pullara, off assists from Christian Mroczkowski (Kitchener, Ont.) and Kyle Jenkins (Brampton, Ont.), finished off.

Therrien scored his second of the game right after Pullara’s goal but it was too little too late for the Voyageurs to mount a comeback.

Shot totals were 43 for the Golden Hawks and 24 for the Voyageurs.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-1-0 on the season while the Voyageurs fall to 1-3-0.

From here, the Hawks play Ryerson next at Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.  Puck-drop is set for Wednesday night.
