Laurier: 46 WATERLOO: 12
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 16, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s rugby team wrapped up a playoff spot on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Waterloo Warriors 46-12.
The Hawks (4-3), who clinched their first playoff berth since 2015, picked up their fourth win of the season in the process, a mark the team hasn’t hit since the 2009 season.
Centre Christopher Matsoukas of Markham, Ont., led the way for the purple and gold as he found the try line three times to pace the Laurier offence.
Five other Hawks all scored single tries in the victory while
Nathan Roberts of Waterloo, Ont., kicked three conversions.
The victory also extended Laurier’s lead in the Battle of Waterloo standings as the Hawks now own a 5-0-4 record against their cross town rivals.
The Hawks will close out their regular season schedule this Friday, October 20, at home against the RMC Paladins (1-6). Laurier could clinch fifth place in the OUA standings with a victory pending the outcome of the Brock/Trent matchup.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at University Stadium.
