KANATA, Ont. (October 16, 2017) - For the second consecutive year, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s golfer Austin Ryan
earned a spot on the podium at the OUA Championships as he won individual bronze at the 2017 event held this past weekend at Loch March Golf and Country Club.
Ryan, a fifth-year native of Owen Sound, Ont., and last year’s OUA individual champion, fired rounds of one-over par 73 and one-under par 71 to finish in a tie for third with Windsor’s Bryce Evon at even-par 144 to win a bronze medal.
Playing in his final OUA Championship, the result also gave Ryan his third nod as an OUA All-Star and second straight year as a First Team All-Star.
The economics major’s strong play helped the purple and gold finish fifth in the team standings which earned them a trip to the Golf Canada Championships next spring. Laurier finished two shots off a podium result after combining to shoot a team total of 27-over par 603.Andrew Cox
of Kitchener, Ont., also played a key role in the Hawks’ team success as he finished tied for 12th at 6-over par 150.
In the women’s event, Laurier finished eighth in the team standings as they combined to shoot a team total of 98-over par 530.Skylar Turkiewicz
of Brantford, Ont., led the way for the women as she finished tied for 17th at 24-over par 168.
