WATERLOO, ONT (October 13th, 2017)- With just a few games remaining in the 2017/2018 season, this weekend’s games are vitally important to the playoff hopes of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s soccer team. On Saturday, the Hawks are set to battle the Western Mustangs in London and on Sunday, the team travels to Windsor to face the Windsor Lancers.

Laurier played Western earlier in the year, a physical affair that ended in a 3-1 loss. However, the Hawks fared much better against the Lancers, earning a 3-1 victory on September 16th. Both games this weekend are important to the Hawks’ playoff chances. The team currently sits outside the playoffs, by just one point, having amassed 12 points for the year. The team that holds the final playoff position, the Lancers, have 13 points while playing in one less game on the season. The Mustangs are in fourth position in the OUA West standings, with 24 points this season, and have secured a playoff berth.

The Hawks will enter Saturday’s game coming off a 0-0 draw against cross-town rival, the Waterloo Warriors. Western lost their previous match (against Algoma 2-1), while Windsor last played against the Mustangs two weeks ago, losing 2-0 at Mustang Field.
