The women’s softball team concluded their regular season on home turf at Hillside Park on Friday night, sweeping the Windsor Lancers in a double header.
In game one, Amy Campagnolo scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over the Lancers. Bobbi Sue Hentges opened the bottom of the first with a line drive triple down the right field line and was later scored off a single from Dani O’Connell. Sydnee Scott had three singles for the Golden Hawks and scored a run herself. Behind stellar pitching and outstanding defensive play, the Golden Hawks held the Lancers off the scoreboard and never gave them the opportunity to make the game close.
In game two of the double header, the Golden Hawks put the game away in the first inning, scoring three runs before the Lancers could get an out. Bobbi-Sue Hentges added two more hits on the night for herself, leading the way at the top of the order for the Golden Hawks and Dani O’Connell added two more for herself. Laurier would take a number of leads throughout the game before it was eventually called on the run rule, as Laurier topped the Lancers 12-4. Brianna Norlock threw a one hit gem for four innings before Windsor could get some offense of their own going but Norlock was able to close the door for the Golden Hawks as they end the regular season on a four game winning streak.
Laurier finishes the regular season in fourth place, with the second highest offense in the league.
Laurier will host the OIWFA Provincial Championships this weekend, October 14-15 at the Peter Hallman Ball Yard. This is the second time Laurier has hosted the Provincial Championships which has the top eight university softball teams. For more information and a schedule visit www.oiwfa.org
