KEEP THE FOOT ON THE PEDAL
The Laurier Golden Hawks women’s soccer team is back in action this weekend at University Stadium. Last weekend, they welcomed in two of the top teams in the OUA West Division, the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs. This weekend upcoming will present a completely different challenge for the Hawks (2-2-4) as the winless Algoma Thunderbirds (0-6) are in town for a pair of games.

While the Hawks were able to do a number of good things last weekend, they were only able to take away one point from the two matches and now find themselves nine points off Guelph’s division lead. They will head into the matches with Algoma as clear favourites and will have the opportunity to launch themselves back into the mix for the division lead. However, they cannot afford to let the foot off the pedal at this level. The Hawks will need to be mentally sharp, Saturday and Sunday will be all about focus and concentration.

THROW-IN’S
-    Western moved into the U-SPORTS Top 10 rankings this week, debuting and No. 5. There are now four OUA outfits among the nation’s Top 10
-    The Hawks have another two home games before the Reading Week break, a couple weekday matinees against McMaster and Waterloo
-    Algoma faced Guelph twice up in Sault Ste. Marie last weekend, dropping a pair of 3-0 contests

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (2-2-4)
MF Nicole Lyon (Kitchener, Ont.)
-    Lyon has proven herself to be a leader in the middle of the field for the purple and gold, with much of the Hawks possession and attack running through her

Algoma Thunderbirds (0-6)
F Taylor Bellini (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.)
-    The fourth year has been the T-Birds’ most effective offensive weapon so far this season, with one of their two goals to go along with a team-leading nine shots
