The Laurier Golden Hawks women’s soccer team will kick off tomorrow evening against the York Lions (0-3-1) at University Stadium. The Hawks (1-1-2) rebounded nicely on Sunday against the Lions after dropping their home opener Saturday, shutting down the York attack to earn the team’s first win of the season and keeper Ashley Almeida’s (Burlington, Ont.) first clean sheet of the year.

With a slow start to the season, look for York to bring their best effort in the rematch.

Following the return match against York, a Waterloo Derby match beckons on Sunday as the purple and gold travel down the street to Warrior Field to take on the Warriors. Waterloo is currently undefeated (2-0-2) through their first four matches, and you can bet the Hawks will be extremely motivated to hand their rivals potentially a first loss of the season.

- The Hawks will not have to travel outside of Waterloo next until October, with six of their next seven contests coming at home, with the one away match at Warrior Field
- The Warriors and Hawks drew in both their 2016 meetings, with the match at University Stadium ending in particularly dramatic fashion with Waterloo scoring in stoppage time to even the score at 2-2
- The purple and gold sit squarely in the middle of the OUA West Division standings in fifth place on five points

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (1-1-2)
F Gagan Parhar (Surrey, B.C.)
  • Drawing in due to injuries on Sunday, Parhar was the difference for the Hawks, scoring the lone goal in the Hawks first victory of the season at York
York Lions (0-3-1)
GK Taylor Grant (Brampton, Ont.)
  • The veteran keeper was among the Top 5 in the OUA in many statistical categories and has the ability to steal a game, with the Lions needing a victory look for her to try to do just that
Waterloo Warriors (2-0-2)
MF Stephanie Penta (Kitchener, Ont.)
  • Penta was a nightmare for Algoma last weekend, as she scored five goals in a pair of games against the Thunderbirds, a total that is good for first in the OUA
