The Low Down

After tough outcomes against Brock and McMaster to start the season, the Hawks will look to come away with some points against two formidable opponents this weekend. Guelph, currently at 2-0-1 on the year and York at 1-2-0.

Need to Know
  • Saturday’s game against Guelph will be Laurier’s first home game of the regular season.
  • With a record of 0-2, the Golden Hawks are tied for sixth place in the OUA West standings.
  • Guelph and York played each other on August 30th, with the Gryphons edging out the Lions 2-1.
  • Guelph currently sits atop the conference standings with seven overall points, while York are in fifth place with five points.
Players to Watch

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (0-2)
G Rocco Strazzella (Woodbrige, Ont.)
  • The third-year goalkeeper leads the league in saves with 20.
  • In the 2016/2017 season, Strazzella started 13 of 14 games for the Hawks.
F Nikola Miokovic (Kitchener, Ont.)
  • In the 2016/2017 season, Miokovic finished second on the team in goals scored.
  • With multi-time OUA All Star forward Niklas Bauer no longer on the team, Miokovic should see an increase in opportunity and responsibility in terms of goal scoring.
Guelph Gryphons (2-0-1)
F Jace Kostsopoulos (Burlington, Ont.)
  • The third-year forward leads the league in goals scored, having netted five.
York Lions (1-2-0)
F Milan Beader (Oakville, Ont.)
  • The second year forward has already scored twice this season and is on track to improve on his seven-goal output from the previous season.
  • Beader has spent multiple seasons playing professionally in the U19 Serbian Superliga.
