The winning foursome from the 20th annual Laurier Golf Classic hosted by Westmount Golf and Country Club
WATERLOO, Ont. (June 26, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation recently hosted the 20th annual Laurier Golf Classic at Westmount Golf and Country Club.
The event included 27 foursomes competing at the prestigious golf club in Kitchener, Ont., and has raised over $1.5 million over the past 20 years. The funds raised from the Golf Classic will be put towards the Golden Hawk Scholarship Fund, the Student Horizon Fund, and enhancements for the department.
Throughout the day, participants competed in a variety of on-course contests including longest drive, a chipping contest hosted by members of the men’s basketball team, and "Beat the Hawk" featuring Laurier’s OUA gold medalist Austin Ryan
of the men’s golf team. As attendees worked their way around the course, the golfers were able to interact with a number of other Laurier student-athletes from football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's hockey, and men’s and women’s soccer, who were situated at various holes.
Following the action, a post-round dinner was hosted in the clubhouse where the various prize winners were announced along with the overall winners from the day. Raising the Golf Classic trophy at the end of the day were Randy and Marianne McGlynn, Larry Smith and Alison Golanski.
Laurier Athletics and Recreation would like to thank event sponsors Aramark, Aon Hewitt, RBC, TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, BMO, the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association, Sun Life Financial along with all other hole sponsors and golfers. Their generous support helps to keep the Golden Hawks competitive in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (USPORTS).
