Three MFOOT players to compete at CFL Combine
WATERLOO, Ont. (March 20, 2017) – Three members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team will be looking to make one last impression on Canadian Football League (CFL) teams ahead of the CFL Draft as they head to Regina this week for the 2017 National CFL Combine presented by adidas.

Defensive linemen Kwaku Boateng of Milton, Ont., and Jalen Price of Hamilton, along with linebacker Nakas Onyeka of Brampton, Ont., will take part in the three-day combine from March 23-25 at Evraz Place in Saskatchewan as a part of CFL Week festivities.

Over the course of the three days, players will undergo medical examinations, performance, strength and speed tests, on-field football drills and team interviews in front of general managers, coaches and scouts from all teams.

Boateng heads into the national combine as the sixth-ranked prospect in the country. The 6-2, 250 lbs. defensive end had another stellar season for the Golden Hawks as he earned U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian and OUA First Team All-Star honours for the second consecutive year.

He finished the 2016 season by setting new career marks in total tackles (22), knockdowns (6) and forced fumbles (4). He also became Laurier’s all-time sacks leader by recording 6.5 to give him 20.5 for his career.

Onyeka, who was ranked 18th on December’s CFL Scouting Bureau prospect list, is also coming off a career year in which he was a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian and the winner of the OUA President’s Award for top stand up defensive player in the conference.

The 6-0, 210 lbs. linebacker, who was also an OUA First Team All-Star, finished first in the OUA in solo tackles in 2016 with 51, giving him a career-best 59.5 total tackles. He also set a new career high with 5.5 sacks while adding two knockdowns, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Price joins his teammates in Regina after earning OUA First Team All-Star status in 2016. The 6-5, 320 lbs. defensive tackle was a force in the middle of Laurier’s defence last year, finishing with 19 tackles, five sacks and two knockdowns. He was also recognized as the West Defensive Player of the Week at the 2016 East West Bowl.
