5 MFOOT players off to CFL Regional Combine
WATERLOO, Ont. (March 14, 2017) - Five members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team will suit up at the CFL Ontario Regional Combine this Friday, March 17, in Toronto as they look to improve their standing heading into the CFL Draft.

Heading to the event this week will be receiver Marcus Arkarakas of Richmond Hill, Ont., linebacker Brandon Calver of London, Ont., defensive back Taylor Calverley of Pottageville, Ont., and offensive linemen Brett Golding of Dunnville, Ont. and Chris Reddy of Kitchener, Ont.

Arkarakas, who has played 31 regular season games for the Hawks since coming to Laurier in 2013, is coming off a season in which he had 15 catches for 193 yards and one touchdown. For his career, he’s recorded 69 receptions for 807 yards and five touchdowns.

Calver, a staple in the Hawks’ linebacking core for the last four years, played six games in 2016 after missing time due to injury. He notched 21.5 tackles to go along with four sacks, bringing his career totals to 139.5 tackles and 7.5 sacks in 30 career games with Laurier.

Calverley, who returned to Laurier this year after missing the 2015 season, had his best campaign with the purple and gold in 2016. Dressing in all eight games, he had a career-high 23.5 tackles, two knockdowns and two interceptions.

Two of Laurier’s highly-regarded offensive line, which has produced some of the top rushing performances in the country over the last four seasons, will also be in attendance in Reddy and Golding. Reddy has appeared in 30 games for the Hawks since joining the team in 2013 while Golding, who missed all of 2016 due to injury, will be looking to show off the form which made him one of Laurier’s best offensive lineman in both 2014 and 2015.

All five players will be looking to put in their best performance as they hope to earn an invitation to the National Combine which is set for March 23-25 in Regina, Saskatachewan. From there, the group will sit patiently as they hope to hear their name called at the 2017 CFL Draft on May 7.
