What a day it was at the Laurier Athletic Complex on Saturday as fans filled the bleachers in support of the women’s and men’s basketball teams as they took on the Western Mustangs.
An even larger crowd than usual came out for Seniors Day, celebrating the graduating players Kaitlyn Schenk, Matt Chesson
and Owen Coulthard
, as they played their last regular season home games. The women started off the afternoon strong as they took the lead against the Mustangs in the first quarter. As they powered through the entire game, the Hawks came out on top in a 77-59 final. After the women’s game, it was the men’s turn to show whose purple is better. The Hawks kept a tight game throughout the first two quarters but the Mustangs slipped away during the second half. Although playing a high energy game, the Golden Hawks lost 65-88.
It was clear by the energy in the AC that Seniors Day had brought out a large number of fans, including friends, roommates and family. It was hard to miss the massive group of Laurier students rooting for the home team with pots and pans. Isaiah Henry helped organize the spectacle, providing all the fans with noise makers and signs in support of his roommate Matt Chesson
during his final home game. Isaiah was sure to show his support as he cheered on the Golden Hawks in their battle against the Mustangs. For his positive energy and endless support for the Hawks, Isaiah went home as Wilf’s Fan of the Game taking home a t-shirt and gift certificate to Wilf’s.
