Wilf's Fans of the Game
The Hawks started this week off with a bang Wednesday during the school day game that brought out students from surrounding elementary schools to the Athletic Complex, as the men’s basketball team fought the Warriors in the battle of Waterloo. The Hawks were sure to put on a show for all those attending as scores remained tight throughout the entire game. After digging themselves out of a hole from the beginning of the game, the Hawks ended up falling just short in a 71-79 finish. Later that evening, the women Hawks were sure to redeem their school as they took on the Warriors. The women were on fire throughout the game, shutting down the Warriors every chance they had. The Hawks ended up taking down the Warriors in a 73-57 win.

The following Saturday the Hawks were back at it, taking on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Both teams knew they had their work cut out for them, bringing their best play to the court. The women proved their strength in a nail biting game taking the lead in the final quarter to finish 74-67. The men’s team followed in their footsteps as they took the lead early on in the game against the Blues. The fans in the bleachers were not disappointed as the Hawks put up huge numbers in a 91-80 win against the Varsity Blues.

The Hawks had quite the energetic crowd turnout during their games this week. During Wednesday night's game, a familiar face to the players watched as the women took down the Warriors. Taylor Mei, Laurier student and constant supporter of the basketball teams, was sure to bring her spirit as she rooted for the Hawks in some intense games. For her enthusiasm during all the games she attends, Taylor went home as Wilf’s Fan of the Game. Saturday night’s crowd kept up the energy during both the women’s and men’s games. A group of fans could be heard from the court as they cheered for the home team. 3rd year Laurier students Hannah, Melinda and Sahana brought their cheering A-game to support the Hawks and for this were named Wilf’s Fans of the Game. These lucky fans went home with a Wilf’s t-shirt and Wilf’s gift certificate for their tremendous support of the Golden Hawks.

Your next chance to win Wilf's Fan of the Game will be on Saturday, February 11th as the Golden Hawks take on the Western Mustangs. Come out to support the men's and women's Basketball teams if you think you can win the title!
