WATERLOO, Ont. (January 20, 2017) - Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s baseball head coach Scott Ballantyne
was recently given an honourable mention on the list of 100 Most Influential Canadians in Baseball, a yearly list comprised by Canadian Baseball Network contributor Bob Elliott.
For Ballantyne, the recognition caps off what has been an impressive year for the Golden Hawks skipper. In his 10th season as head coach with Laurier, he led his team to their first-ever regular season pennant on the strength of a 15-3 regular season record, the best in school history. Two members of his team earned OUA Major Awards while four Hawks were named conference all-stars.
On top of his success with Laurier, Ballantyne also earned the recognition thanks to his work with the Kitchener Panthers of the Intercounty Baseball League as he was named the 2016 Executive of the Year, as well as his work with the Inter County Baseball Association where he was the 2016 Junior Coach of the Year.
This marks the second time that Ballantyne has found his way onto the yearly list. In 2013, he came in at No. 100 after leading the purple and gold to their first-ever OUA Championship.
Elliott's annual list also included many prominent members of Canada's only Major League Baseball franchise, the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as numerous media members and Canadian athletes.
