Wilf's Fans of the Game - Jamal and Rory
The Golden Hawk men’s and women’s basketball teams started off 2017 with a bang as they played both Friday January 6th and Saturday January 7th. The women’s basketball team began the weekend as they took on the Carleton Ravens. Although keeping the score close throughout the entire game, the women fell just short in a 71-60 final. The men’s basketball team knew they were going to have to work hard in order to beat the Ravens, so they brought their A game throughout the first half of the game. As they let up in the second half, the Hawks had a tough loss of 109-73.

The Athletic Complex was filled with fans on Friday night supporting their Golden Hawks making it difficult to pick just one fan to take home the title of Wilf’s Fan of the Game but Jamal Badu, a student at Laurier, definitely earned the title. Jamal watched the teams fight their hardest as he cheered, clapped and yelled in support of the Hawks. For his high energy encouragement, Jamal went home with the title of Wilf’s Fan of the Game.

The very next night, the Golden Hawks came out strong as they battled the Ottawa Gee-Gees on the Saturday Night. The women were ready to fight as they started off the night. Scores were kept close throughout the game as the leader switched back and forth between teams but in the fourth quarter the women couldn’t quite keep the lead as they lost in a 45-40 game. As the men’s basketball team took on the Gee-Gees, it was clear that they wanted the win. Although working hard during the game, the men were unsuccessful in an 87-58 final.

The crowd on Saturday kept the energy high as the women’s and men’s basketball teams battled the Gee Gee’s. In the crowd, a group of rowdy Laurier student supported the Hawks with their constant cheering. Among the group was Rory O'Donnell, a fan that proved his support with his positive energy and loud cheering. For this, Rory was named Wilf’s Fan of the game.

For being named Wilf’s Fan of the Game, Jamal and Rory went home with a Wilf’s t-shirt and a gift certificate to Wilf’s Restaurant and Bar.

Be sure to come to the Athletic Complex Wednesday January 18th for your next chance to win Wilf’s Fan of the Game when men's basketball hosts the Waterloo Warriors at 11am for the annual School Day Game while the women host Waterloo that evening at 7pm
