Pat Kitchen earns RLSS Certificate of Merit
TORONTO (December 8, 2016) - Patricia Kitchen, the Associate Director of Athletics and Recreation at Wilfrid Laurier University, was honoured with the HRH Prince Michael of Kent 125th Anniversary Certificate of Merit from the Royal Life Saving Society at a ceremony held at Queen’s Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Kitchen, who has worked in Athletics and Recreation since 2005, was one of 125 volunteers from across the Commonwealth to be honoured by the Royal Life Saving Society, and one of 23 from Canada. She was presented her recognition by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

The recipients of this special award are individuals whose voluntary contribution and achievements have significantly impacted on the Royal Life Saving Society and its work, or represent the Society in an exemplary way, in particular in the fields of sport, youth and drowning prevention.

“This prestigious international award recognizes the long-term contributions to the Royal Life Saving Society that Pat has made in Canada and the Commonwealth,” said PETER BAXTER, Laurier’s Director of Athletics and Recreation on Kitchen’s award. “The achievement demonstrates that Pat’s tenure of leadership extends well beyond Laurier and throughout the Commonwealth.”

During her time with the Royal Life Saving Society, Kitchen has served in a number of roles at a provincial, national and international level. From 1998 through 2006, she served as Ontario Vice-President - Training Programs, President-elect, and President.
