WATERLOO, Ont. (November 26, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as they lost 73-56 to the No. 5 Windsor Lancers at the Athletic Complex.

Playing a Top 10 team in Canada for the third time this season, Laurier was unable to contain the size of the Lancers as they fell to 1-2 in games against nationally-ranked opponents this year.

Laurier got off to a good start in the contest as they jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead over the visitors. However, the rest of the half belonged to the Lancers as they outscored the purple and gold 47-23 to take a 19-point lead into the break.

In the third quarter, the Hawks pushed back as they closed the quarter on a 12-5 run, cutting Windsor’s lead to 59-47.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Laurier managed to pull within 11 points but Windsor would lock down their defence and close the game on an 8-2 run to come away with the win.

Leading the way for Windsor was forward Cheyanne Roger of Etobicoke, Ont., who used her size advantage to finish the contest with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Emily Prevost of Montreal, also had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds as Windsor outrebounded Laurier 61-36 on the afternoon.

Laurier was paced on the day by Irena Rynkiewicz of Mississauga, Ont., who had a team-high 14 points along with seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

NICOLE MORRISON of Hamilton, chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The loss drops Laurier to 5-2 on the season while Windsor improves to 6-0.

The Hawks will return to action next Friday, December 2, when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs at the Athletic Complex. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen live on
