WATERLOO, Ont. (November 26, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as they lost 73-56 to the No. 5 Windsor Lancers at the Athletic Complex.
Playing a Top 10 team in Canada for the third time this season, Laurier was unable to contain the size of the Lancers as they fell to 1-2 in games against nationally-ranked opponents this year.
Laurier got off to a good start in the contest as they jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead over the visitors. However, the rest of the half belonged to the Lancers as they outscored the purple and gold 47-23 to take a 19-point lead into the break.
In the third quarter, the Hawks pushed back as they closed the quarter on a 12-5 run, cutting Windsor’s lead to 59-47.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Laurier managed to pull within 11 points but Windsor would lock down their defence and close the game on an 8-2 run to come away with the win.
Leading the way for Windsor was forward Cheyanne Roger of Etobicoke, Ont., who used her size advantage to finish the contest with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Emily Prevost of Montreal, also had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds as Windsor outrebounded Laurier 61-36 on the afternoon.

of Mississauga, Ont., who had a team-high 14 points along with seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.NICOLE MORRISON
of Hamilton, chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The loss drops Laurier to 5-2 on the season while Windsor improves to 6-0.
The Hawks will return to action next Friday, December 2, when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs at the Athletic Complex. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
