Laurier: 69 Western: 64
LONDON, Ont. (November 23, 2016) – Led by big offensive nights from two veteran guards, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team picked up their fifth win of the season on Wednesday as they defeated the Western Mustangs 69-64 at Alumni Hall.NICOLE MORRISON
of Hamilton, and Kaitlyn Schenck
of Kitchener, Ont., led the way for the purple and gold as they combined to score 43 of the team’s 69 points.
Morrison finished with a game-high 23 points as she shot 80 percent from the floor (8-for-10) while Schenck added 20 points on 50 percent shooting (6-for-12).
Both players were also able to get to the line and have success as Morrison finished 7-of-8 from the charity stripe with Schenck hitting on seven of her nine attempts.
Although the Hawks were badly outrebounded in the game, with Western holding a 51-28 margin, Laurier was able to make up for the deficit by hitting nearly 41 percent of their field goals compared to just 36 percent for the hosts. The Hawks were also solid from the free throw line, shooting 84.2 percent to Western’s 57.1.

As for Western, they fall to 4-1 on the year.
