Coming off an upset victory in their home opener, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (1-0) look to keep their momentum rolling this weekend as they host the Algoma Thunderbirds (0-1) in a weekend doubleheader.

- the Hawks and Thunderbirds meet for the sixth and seventh times respectively in their histories with Laurier having won all previous five meetings
- Laurier enters the weekend fresh off a 68-66 upset win over the then-ranked No. 7 Ryerson Rams
- Algoma lost their opener on the road at Lakehead by a score of 66-55
- last season, Laurier won 71-36 and 67-44 against the Thunderbirds up in Sault Ste. Marie

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (1-0)

G Irena Rynkiewicz (Mississauga, Ont.)
- a walk on a year ago, Rynkiewicz carried over her impressive play from 2015-16 with an 11 point, five rebound performance in Laurier’s opener against Ryerson
- last season, she averaged 5.6 points per game while playing just 12.9 minutes per night

G SARAH DILLON (Welland, Ont.)
- one of the Hawks’ top shooters, Dillon was in fine form in Laurier’s home opener as she shot 57 percent from the floor, finishing with nine points
- now in her fourth year, Dillon is coming off her best season with the purple and gold as she averaged 9.2 points per game while shooting 40.7 percent from the field

Algoma Thunderbirds (0-1)

G Sydney Resch (Guelph, Ont.)
- the fourth year guard opened the season with a 12-point, four rebound performance against the Lakehead Thunderwolves

F Rebecca Wylie (London, Ont.)
- first year forward was also impressive for the Thunderbirds against Lakehead as she had nine points and eight rebounds in her first career game
