WBASK drops preseason finale to Guelph
Laurier: 62 Guelph: 67
GUELPH, Ont. (October 30, 2016) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team ended their non-conference schedule on Friday night with a 67-62 loss to the Guelph Gryphons, 

Laurier fell behind early in the contest as they trailed 43-30 at the half. However, the team rallied with a strong second half but the Hawks were unable to close the gap all the way as they fell to 3-5 in the preseason.

NICOLE MORRISON of Hamilton, came off the bench to lead the Hawks with 16 points in 27 minutes. Rookie Brianna Iannazzo of Thornhill, Ont., and Lauren Jamieson, of Oakville, Ont., chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Meanwhile, the Gryphons got contributions from across the board with four of their starters reaching double figures in scoring. Ashley Wheeler of Stratford, Ont., was Guelph’s leading scorer with 14 points while Haley Belyk of Regina, had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Laurier will now turn their attention to their home and season opener on Saturday, November 5 against the defending OUA Champions, the Ryerson Rams. Note that tip off is set for 6 p.m., a change from the original time of 1 p.m.
