Laurier has long been considered one of the most spirited schools in the province and students showcase their Golden Hawk spirit everywhere they go; in class, at school events and even long after they graduate. The iconic Golden Hawk is the center of this spirit and is easily recognized by students and the surrounding community. The Golden Hawk is not only a symbol of "Athletics" but rather a physical representation of Laurier's overall spirit.
For years Laurier Brantford has been represented by an outdated Golden Hawk mascot and was in need of a fresh makeover. Thanks to the contributions of the Student Union’s Student Life Levy and the Brantford Grants Program, the Athletics Department was able to upgrade their outdated mascot.
A social media campaign was held recently to slowly showcase different parts of the new Golden Hawk mascot, building the anticipation to see the final product. A total of 5 different “sneak peaks” were posted, including the Hawk back squatting in the weight room and peeking out from behind the Hawk Desk at Wilkes House Recreation Centre.
“We are excited to see the Golden Hawk mascot around campus more often this year,” comments Megan Jacklin
, Coordinator of Fitness & Lifestyle Programs, and head of the Golden Hawk Mascot Upgrade Project. “The mascot has this way of pumping up everyone’s spirit and having a new one will exacerbate that spirit even more.”
