NORTH BAY, Ont. (October 3, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s basketball team made a winner of their new head coach JUSTIN SERRESSE
in their non-conference debut on Friday night as they defeated the Nipissing Lakers 74-50.
Laurier was led in the contest by fifth year forward Matt Chesson
of Whitby, Ont., who poured in 19 points for the Hawks.
Also contributing to the victory were third year guard Chuder Teny
of Kitchener, Ont., who had 13 points, and rookie guard Tevaun Kokko
of Markham, Ont., who had 10 points.
The purple and gold also played on Saturday night against Algoma where they posted a 64-52 win.
Kokko was once again at the forefront of the Laurier attack as he had a team-high 17 points. Teny added 12 points while Chesson, and rookie guard Shamar Burrows
of Nassau, Bahamas, added eight each.
Laurier’s next preseason action will be from Winnipeg as they travel to Manitoba for three contests next weekend. Friday night, Laurier faces the Manitoba Bisons before taking on the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday.
The Hawks close out the weekend trip against the Brandon Bobcats in Brandon, Man., on Sunday afternoon.
