WBASK splits first preseason games of 2016-17

NORTH BAY, Ont. (October 3, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team kicked off their 2016-17 season in North Bay this past weekend against the Concordia Stingers and the Nipissing Lakers.

Laurier opened up against the Concordia Stingers on Friday night and suffered an 87-47 defeat.

Despite the loss, fifth year guard Kaitlyn Schenck of Kitchener, Ont., had a big night, scoring 22 points, the most she’s had in a single game in her Laurier career.

Rookie guard BRIANNA IANNAZZO of Thornhill, Ont., was also strong for Laurier as she poured in 10 points.

Saturday night brought about a better result for the purple and gold as they knocked off the host Nipissing Lakers 76-48.

Rookie guard Jill Condron of Oakville, Ont., and second year guard Irena Rynkiewicz of Mississauga, Ont., were the scoring leaders on the night for the Hawks as each poured in 13 points.

Iannazzo continued her impressive start to her Golden Hawk career as she also reached double figures, finishing with 12 points.

Laurier will continue their non-conference schedule on Thursday, October 6 as they see their first home action of the preseason, hosting the Toronto Varsity Blues. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Athletic Complex.
