WATERLOO, Ont. (September 11, 2016) – On Saturday afternoon, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's rugby team continued their winning ways when they defeated the Waterloo Warriors 29-11 at Warrior Field in front of a packed Waterloo crowd.
The Hawks started off slow, trailing the Warriors 11-10 at the half. However, at the break they rallied back to score 19 unanswered points in the half to put them on top 29-11.JEFF WOOD
of Stratford, Ont., led the way for the purple and gold as he scored a pair of tries on the afternoon. Also chipping in with single scores were Andrew Quattrin
of Holland Landing, Ont., Benjamin Playfair of Waterloo, Ont., and Darnell Marks
of Mississauga, Ont., who notched his second try in as many games.Samuel Goffin
of Scarborough, Ont., was successful in converting two tries to round out the scoring for the purple and gold.
All of the Warriors' (0-2) points were scored by Mitch Voralek, a first year local product from Waterloo, Ont., who notched an unconverted try, as well as two penalty goals.
The victory propels the purple and gold to a 2-0 record, a feat they accomplish for the first time since 2006, when their regular season record was 6-2.
The next game for the undefeated Hawks is Saturday September 17th, 2016, when Laurier travels to Kingston to take on Queen’s (1-1) at Nixon Field. Game time is 1 p.m. and you can watch live on OUA.tv
