Waterloo, Ont. (June 15, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and Manager of Football Operations and head coach MICHAEL FAULDS
have agreed to a contract extension that sees Coach Faulds leading the Hawks through the 2022-23 season, Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Baxter
"Coach Faulds has been outstanding in creating a culture where young men learn to win in everything they do- academically, athletically, and in community leadership," said Baxter. "This extension represents our desire to build a model of stability and consistency, and together with the talented student-athletes, coaches, and support staff Michael has surrounded himself with, Laurier Football is back on track to compete for the Vanier Cup."
Faulds recently completed the third season of his five-year contract in 2015 as head coach of the Golden Hawks, where his team defeated the defending Yates Cup Champions McMaster Maurauders in the OUA quarter-finals to qualify for their first OUA semifinal appearance since 2010.
"My family and I are absolutely thrilled to be able to continue to call Kitchener/Waterloo home,” said Faulds on the extension. I want to thank Peter Baxter
and the rest of Wilfrid Laurier University for allowing me to lead this football program. I am surrounded by an amazing group of coaches, staff and players and the whole Laurier community is supportive and welcoming.”
“The goals remain the same; bring Yates & Vanier Cups back to Laurier and more importantly, help young men grow into leaders by the time they graduate,” added Faulds. “I believe with our culture and the talented people around this program we can accomplish both.”
Over the course of his three years at the helm of the purple and gold, Faulds has amassed a regular season record of 9-15, including 8-8 over the last two seasons. During that time, he has coached two student-athletes to OUA major awards, 17 student-athletes to OUA All-Star status and six to CIS All-Canadian honours. Seven have also been named CIS Academic All-Canadians.
After serving three years as the offensive coordinator for the York Lions, Faulds was hired as head coach for Wilfrid Laurier on January 8, 2013. Faulds was the all-time CIS passing yards leader with 10,811 yards and is one of only three CIS quarterbacks to have thrown for over 10,000 yards.
