WBASK 2016-17 schedule released by OUA

WATERLOO, Ont. (June 13, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team, led by Coach PAUL FALCO, will open their 2016-17 season at home on November 5th against Ryerson University, as per the OUA schedule released on Monday.

The Hawks had a slower season than their previous with eight fewer wins for a 9-11-0 regular season record. With a third place rank in the OUA West division, the purple and gold advanced to the first round of OUA playoffs where they were eliminated by the Windsor Lancers.

This season, aiming to improve on last season's record, the women look ahead to  this season's matchups in their newly released schedule:

  • The Hawks will host the OUA Champions, Ryserson Rams at 1:00 p.m. on November 5th to initiate their season
  • Bragging rights are on the line as the Hawks host the Waterloo Warriors on January 18th at 6:00 p.m. for the Battle of Waterloo
  • The Hawks host the Windsor Lancers on November 26th at 6:00 p.m. for a battle of redemption
  • Laurier will look to show the Western Mustangs whose purple is better when the purple ponies visit the Athletic Complex Gym for the Hawks final regular season home game on February 11th at 1:00 p.m.

The West Division will once again be a five-team grouping (Algoma, Waterloo, Western, Wilfrid Laurier, Windsor) and include double-header weekends in Sault Ste. Marie against the Thunderbirds within an eight game home-at-home schedule within the division. The West will also play a single game against teams from the Central, East, and North, totaling 20 games.

The OUA playoffs will consist of four rounds with the preliminary round slated for Wednesday, February 22 followed by the quarter-finals on Saturday, February 25. The Critelli Cup Final Four will be hosted by the highest remaining women's teams. The semifinals are set for Friday, March 3, while the bronze and gold medal games will take place on Saturday, March 4.

The 2017 CIS Final 8 championships will take place just one week later on March 9-12 with the women’s championship  hosted by the University of Victoria, in Victoria, B.C.
