MFOOT Corporate Dinner raises over $45,000

WATERLOO, Ont. (May 2, 2016) - Last Thursday evening, the Wilfrid Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted the 17th annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner, presented by Sun Life Financial, at Bingemans Conference Centre.

The event raised over $45,000 which will directly benefit the Golden Hawks football program.

Highlighting the evening was a Q&A, led by emcee Andy Baechler, with former Golden Hawks and current CFL players Courtney Stephen (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), Shamawd Chambers (Saskatchewan Roughriders), Shane Herbert (Toronto Argonauts) and Ese Mrabure-Ajufo (B.C. Lions). As well, two of the best teams in Laurier history were recognized as the 1966 College Bowl invitees and the 1991 Vanier Cup Champions received video tributes on their 50th and 25th anniversaries respectively.

Head Coach MICHAEL FAULDS also delivered his annual State of the Program address which looked back at the outstanding 2015 season the Golden Hawks enjoyed as well as provided an outlook for the upcoming 2016 season.

The Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner is a fundraising initiative of the Laurier Golden Hawk Football program. To date, the event has raised close to $950,000 for the Golden Hawk football program. The funds are directed into enhancements and support, such as equipment, academic assistance, coaching support and facilities.

Laurier will open their 2016 season at home on Sunday, August 28 when they host the Queen’s Gaels at University Stadium. Laurier will also play host to the York Lions, the Waterloo Warriors, and the Guelph Gryphons in their 2016 home schedule.
