WBASK meets Lancers in 1st round of playoffs

Game Date/Time: Wednesday, March 2 - 6 p.m.
Game Location: St. Denis Centre, Windsor
Live Webcast: OUA.tv

THE SKINNY
Two OUA West division rivals will go head-to-head in the first round of the conference playoffs on Wednesday as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (9-11) travel to Windsor to take on the No. 10 Lancers (15-5).

SEASON SERIES
- the Hawks and Lancers played two close games this season with Windsor winning both by a combined eight points
- the two teams met in the season opener as Windsor picked up an 85-80 win on home court
- in the return engagement at the Athletic Complex in late January, the Lancers held on to post a narrow 72-69 victory

LAST PLAYOFF MEETING
- Laurier and Windsor are meeting in the postseason for the third time in three years
- their last meeting came at the CIS Championship two years ago, hosted by Windsor, when they met in the quarter-finals
- Windsor came away with an 81-53 victory on the strength of a 30-point effort from Miah-Marie Langlois

LAURIER KEYS TO THE GAME
1. Containing the Front-Court
- the Hawks will need to find a way to limit Windsor’s forwards who have posted big games against the purple and gold this season
- look for Laurier to send double-teams into the post to try and take away time and space for Emily Prevost and Cheyanne Roger

2. Shooting the Three
- in both games against Windsor this year, Laurier had success from three-point range, connecting for 10 three pointers in November and nine in January
- the Hawks will need a similar performance on Wednesday to knock off the five-time defending CIS Champions

3. Crashing the Boards
- with an undersized squad, the Hawks will need a strong team effort when it comes to rebounding against the Lancers
- in their three-point loss on home court in January, Laurier was able to limit the Lancers impact on the glass as they came within a made three-point shot from forcing overtime

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (9-11)

G NICOLE MORRISON (Hamilton)
- the third year guard was Laurier’s offensive leader all season long, recording 312 points, fourth-most in the OUA while also dishing out 60 assists, tenth-most in the conference
- against Windsor, Morrison had two of her best games of the season, scoring 21 points in their season opener and then pouring in 22 points in the January meeting

G Sarah Dillon (Welland, Ont.)
- the third year guard was head coach Paul Falco’s first option off the bench this year and rewarded him by scoring 9.2 points per game, fourth-best on the team
- Dillon had two of her more productive games against the Lancers this year as she had 13 points in the Hawks season-opening loss to Windsor before adding 11 in their loss at home in January

Windsor Lancers (15-5) - No. 10 in Canada

F Emily Prevost (Montreal)
- the third year forward forms one part of Windsor’s dynamic duo in the post as she averaged 14.3 points per game, including a 31-point performance against Laurier in January

F Cheyanne Roger (Etobicoke, Ont.)
- the third year forward who forms part of the Lancers difficult front-court matchup, Roger averaged a team-high 14.7 points per game, including a 24-point effort against the Hawks back in November
