WATERLOO, Ont. (January 27, 2016) - Two current and two former members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks cheerleading team, presented by The Marq, will represent Canada at the 2016 ICU World Cheerleading Championships this April.
Marley Gray of Cambridge, Ont., and Jordyn Witmeyer of Oakville, Ont.,, along with alum Bailey Sprout of Waterloo, Ont., and Courtney Whelan of Mississauga, Ont., will don the red and white as they compete in the All Girl Premier Division from April 21-22 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
The four Golden Hawks will be looking to improve on Canada’s sixth place finish at the event last year when Mackenzie Harris represented the purple and gold.
"For both of our current athletes, this is their time time on the team so I am very happy for them,” said Wilfrid Laurier head coach Jennifer Louth on Gray and Witmeyer's selection. “This is the first time we have had a stunt group make the team as Marley, Jordyn and Bailey tried out together, and it shows the hard work and dedication the athletes are putting in is paying off.”
"The team is one of the strongest I've seend to date so hopefully are girls will bring home some hardware," added Louth.
For Whelan, she will be representing Canada for the second time after competing at the event in 2014 while Gray, Witmeyer and Sprout will all represent their country for the first time.
In total, 16 Golden Hawk cheerleaders have now represented Canada at the World Cheerleading Championships.
