WATERLOO, Ont. (November 25, 2015) - Jennifer Jones, the 2014 Olympic gold medalist in women’s curling, will deliver the keynote address at the Outstanding Women of Laurier (OWL) dinner on March 30, 2016.
Jones, who is Canada’s most decorated and recognizable female curling athlete, skipped Team Canada in Sochi where her team went undefeated en route to capturing a gold medal and setting a new standard for women’s curling.
“We are excited that Jennifer will be joining us for this year’s Outstanding Women of Laurier dinner,” said PETER BAXTER, director of athletics and recreation at Laurier. “She epitomizes the student-athlete ideal thanks to her outstanding level of performance in the sport of curling while also maintaining a high-profile position as a Senior Legal Advisor. Her story of balancing success in sport and the professional world will be well received by those in attendance at this year’s event.”
Jones is a five time Canadian Women’s Curling Champion, the 2008 World Women’s Curling Champion, 2015 World Silver Medalist and the 2010 World Women’s bronze medalist. She also joined the media bench as a reporter for Yahoo! Sports at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
Jones is a graduate of the University of Manitoba where she completed her Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1999 and has been a member of the Manitoba Bar since 2000.
A natural leader, Jones and her aggressive strategy has changed the face of women’s curling. She is known for being one of the best pressure players to ever compete in curling and best known for making “The Shot” – an extremely difficult “in-off” shot to win her first national championship. “The Shot” is labelled by many sports commentators to be the greatest final shot to ever win a curling championship.
Jones has always and continues to be heavily involved in her community serving on numerous boards over the years. She is currently serving on the HSC Foundation Board. She also prides herself on doing all that she can for local and national charities as opportunities arise.
