WINDSOR, Ont. (November 4, 2015) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team opened up their 2015-16 regular season with an 85-80 loss to the No. 9 Windsor Lancers on Wednesday night.

The opening quarter had the Hawks and Lancers evenly matched as they went almost basket-for-basket with Laurier coming out with a shy 20-18 lead.

The second quarter was the difference maker for the home team. The strong Lancer defence limited the visiting Golden Hawks to only twelve points, which would be the key in earning the victory.

Going into the second half with the Lancers in the lead 37-32, the two teams continued going shot-for shot and each team recorded an additional 48 points before the buzzer sounded, granting the Lancers a five-point victory over the Hawks.

Standing out in the 85-80 contest for the Hawks was guard NICOLE MORRISON (Hamilton, Ont.) who tallied an impressive 21 points and added seven assists.

For the Lancers it was third year forward Cheyanne Roger (Etobicoke, Ont.) leading her team with a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hawks now head back to Waterloo for their home opener as they host the Western Mustangs on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Athletic Complex Gym.
