MLAX picks up two wins

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Men’s Lacrosse team are proud to announce a very successful weekend. The Hawks travelled to Toronto on Saturday September 26th to face the Toronto Varsity Blues. Laurier started off with a 5-0 lead after the first quarter with goals from rookie players Danton Miller and Ryan Shotbolt and veteran players Tandon Naylor and two goals from Connor Bullock. The Blues battled back in the second quarter with three goals bringing the game within two (5-3). The Hawks answered back with two more goals from Connor Bullock and Danton Miller. The Blues then had three more goals leading to the end of the quarter and Danton Miller with another goal. Laurier led 8-5 going into the half.

Laurier went ahead 10-6 after the third quarter and Toronto came back, tying the game with four unanswered goals. Hawks middie Nick Hehl got the game winning goal with 8:16 left in the game. The Hawks were able to slow down the game and take control for the last 8 minutes winning the game 11-10 over the Toronto Varsity Blues.

The Hawks then travelled to McMaster University on Sunday September 27th to face the McMaster Marauders. After the first quarter the game was tied 2-2- with goals from Danton Miller and Keir Thornborrow. After the second quarter the game was still tied now at 3-3 with another goal from Danton Miller. The Hawks had a strong third quarter with three goals from Keir Thornborrow, Danton Miller and Brian Coyne taking the lead 6-4 over the Marauders. Laurier went into the 4th quarter strong with two unanswered goals right away. Connor Bullock scored the 7th and game winning goal and Tandon Naylor with the 8th goal of the game. The Marauders came back with two goals and the Hawks rookie player Danton Miller scored the 9th goal with 5:10 left in the game. The Hawks won the game 9-6 over the McMaster Marauders.

First year player Danton Miller played an outstanding weekend with a total of 7 goals and 3 assists.

The Laurier Men’s Lacrosse team will take on the Western Mustangs on Saturday October 3, 2015 at 4:00 PM on Laurier’s Alumni Field.
