The Wilfrid Laurier University department of athletics and recreation is pleased to announce the appointment of Wes Van Luven to the position of facilities coordinator effective Sept. 16, 2015. Wes is taking over from RYAN LANNAN who took over as interuniversity sport coordinator in the department in August.
Wes has most recently been working at Sun Life Financial in Waterloo. He is a graduate in Kinesiology from Laurier and during his student years was a student leader in many areas of Athletics and Recreation; intramurals, camps, events and facilities. He also played five years for the Golden Hawks men's baseball team.
“Wes’ experience in, and knowledge of, our department will serve him well, as will the relationships he already has developed with coaches, staff and rental groups,” commented Patricia Kitchen, associate director, recreation and facilities. “He has proven that he is passionate about sport and recreation, and developing student leaders, which fits with our department’s emphasis on learning outcomes and the student experience. Wes also has a strong foundation from his studies in Kinesiology.”
"I am most looking forward to working with the full time and student staff. I developed relationships while working as a student leader and I am looking forward to strengthening those relationships. For me the student leaders are very motivating to work with, as they do their absolute best in creating an experience for the Laurier Community in athletics and recreation. They want to be successful, they want to make a difference and that is a great environment in which to work." said Van Luven.
Wes will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, and safe and efficient operation of the Laurier Athletic Complex, University Stadium and Alumni Field.
