OTTAWA (September 1, 2015) - After a pair of dominating victories over the Algoma Thunderbirds, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s soccer team has been ranked sixth in the first CIS Top 10 poll of the 2015 season.
The Hawks opened their year with 18-1 and 15-0 wins over the Thunderbirds to extend their regular season win streak to four games dating back to last season.
Leading the way for head coach BARRY MACLEAN’s squad was Nicole Lyon of Kitchener, Ont., who scored seven goals in the two games. Fifth year forward Emily Brown of Waterloo, Ont., also became the OUA modern day scoring leader as she scored six times to give her 69 goals in her career.
Last year, the purple and gold also opened the year at No. 6 and proceeded to finish the season with a 12-1-3 record. In total, the Hawks have been ranked in the opening Top 10 poll of the season for five straight years.
