WATERLOO, Ont. (August 13, 2015) - Peter Baxter, the Director of Athletics and Recreation, announced today that RYAN LANNAN has been hired as the new Coordinator, Interuniversity Sport for the department.
Lannan, formerly the Coordinator, Facilities, takes over the role from Wally Gabler, who left the department at the end of July to pursue a new opportunity as the Manager, Sport Programming at Ontario University Athletics.
“I am excited to have Ryan on board working with our varsity programs,” commented Baxter on Lannan’s new role with the department. “He has great experience working within Athletics and Recreation, as well as within the University environment which will help him excel in the position.”
“I would also like to thank Wally for his contributions to our department as he pursues this new opportunity with the OUA,” added Baxter. “Wally was a valuable member of our team at Laurier for the past 16 years as both a coach and administrator, and he will be greatly missed.”
Since graduating from Laurier in 2004, Lannan has worked in both Residence Life, and Athletics and Recreation. He spent four years as a Residence Life Coordinator before moving into the position of Coordinator, Facilities for Athletics and Recreation, where he’s served for the past seven years. During his time at the Athletic Complex, Lannan was a key member of the new Laurier Fitness Centre construction project team and has provided facility and event management support to both our Interuniversity and recreation programs.
Lannan is a former junior hockey player in the Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League in his hometown of Port Colborne, Ont., and recently completed a Master’s degree in Education and Leadership at Laurier. His combined experiences in sport and at Laurier will enhance the student-athlete development goals and student-athlete experience within the Interuniversity Sport Program.
“I am looking forward to this new opportunity and challenge, while being able to continue to be a part of department and university that I have a true passion for,” said Lannan on his appointment. “Wally Gabler has left an outstanding legacy with Athletics and Recreation at Laurier, one that I am excited to build upon. The opportunity to work alongside high quality coaches and student-athletes is energizing, while being able to foster a culture of success on and off the playing field. A goal will be to encourage and support them to become better people each day in everything they do.”
Lannan begins his new role immediately and can be reached at email@example.com.
