WATERLOO, Ont. (May 29, 2015) - PETER BAXTER, director of athletics and recreation at Wilfrid Laurier University, has been named the new president of Ontario University Athletics (OUA), effective immediately.
He replaces outgoing OUA president Jennifer Myers from York University who recently completed her
“It is a great honour to serve the 20 members of the OUA and carry-forward the direction set by former OUA President Jennifer Myers and the OUA Board of Directors,” said Baxter on his appointment. “On behalf of the OUA, my first task is to thank Jennifer for her leadership. With a new and entrepreneurial CEO in Gord Grace, and a mandate to accomplish the ambitious goals of the OUA strategic plan, I am fortunate to be part of building the conference into our collective vision for the OUA to become the preeminent university sport conference in this country.”
Baxter has been director since May of 1998 and during his tenure, 37 of Laurier's 68 OUA championships and nine of eleven CIS national championships have been won by Golden Hawk teams.
He has represented Canada as Chef de Mission for two World University Games (2009 Winter Universiade in Harbin and 2011 Summer Univerade in Shenzhen, China).
Baxter has also served on numerous Committees and Executive Boards of both the OUA and CIS sport organizations.
