WATERLOO, Ont. (February 14, 2015) – Whitney Ellenor led the No. 6 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team to a new program-best 16th victory on Saturday night as they defeated the Nipissing Lakers 92-55 at the Athletic Complex.

Ellenor, a fifth year centre from Pickering, Ont., recorded a season best 21 points in the contest in just 21 minutes of court time. She also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists during her limited playing time.

Even before tipoff, the odds were looking in the Golden Hawks’ (16-2) favour after the Lakers arrived with only six players dressed due to injuries.

Nipissing was able to keep pace with the Hawks until about six minutes in to the first quarter when the Hawks found their stride and launched ahead to end the quarter leading 27-13.

This doubled into a 54-26 advantage by the half when Ellenor had already posted 11 points on the board for the Hawks and Lakers guard Maeve Therriault (Ottawa, Ont.) was leading the Nipissing team with nine.

Going into the second half, the Hawks continued to dominate the court and looked good to break into a triple-digit score by the end of the game. However, Laurier let up over the final 10 minutes as they cruised to the win.

In another balanced scoring night for the purple and gold, two other Hawks joined Ellenor in double figures as NICOLE MORRISON of Hamilton, had 11 points, five steals, four assists and four rebounds. Courtney Bruce of Orillia, Ont., came off the bench to also post 11 points.

Laurier had a strong shooting night as they made 53.3 percent of their shots from the field, including 46.7 percent from beyond the arc.

The Nipissing women shot close to 38 percent with two of their players reaching the team-high 16 points. Therriault finished with 16 points and three rebounds while forward Leisa Wierenga (Peterborough, Ont.) earned a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

The Hawks hit the road next to head to London, Ont., and face their long-time school rival the Western Mustangs. The game is set for Wednesday, February 18th at 6:00 p.m. and can be seen live on OUA.tv.

NOTE: The 92 points scored by Laurier on Saturday night is the most since the Hawks put up 92 on the Waterloo Warriors back on February 16, 2011
