OUA announces 2015 MFOOT schedule

HAMILTON (February 10, 2015) - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) officially announced the men's football schedule for the upcoming 2015 season on Tuesday morning.

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, who are coming off a 4-4 season and a berth in the OUA playoffs a year ago, will open their season with back-to-back road games against the York Lions on Sunday, August 30 and the Guelph Gryphons, last year’s Yates Cup finalists, on Labour Day Monday, September 7.

The purple and gold will then return to University Stadium for their home opener on Saturday, September 12 when they battle the Western Mustangs in a rematch of last season’s OUA Quarter-final. Laurier will be looking to avenge a 25-10 loss to the Mustangs, a game that was tied heading into the fourth quarter.

Following a Bye Week on September 19, the Hawks will welcome back their alumni on Homecoming weekend as the take on the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, September 26. More than 9,000 passionate fans will look to cheer on Laurier to their second consecutive Homecoming victory after the Golden Hawks dismantled the Carleton Ravens 53-3 a year ago.

Week 6 of the OUA Football schedule will be Rivalry Week and head coach MICHAEL FAULDS’ and his squad will be headed across University Ave. for the Battle of Waterloo. The Hawks and Warriors will square off on Waterloo’s Homecoming weekend on Saturday, October 3 with Laurier looking for their 12th consecutive victory over their crosstown rivals.

Thanksgiving weekend, the Hawks will face the Ottawa Gee-Gees at University Stadium for the first time since the 2012 season. Winners of the last two meetings, Laurier will be looking for three straight wins over Ottawa on Friday, October 9.

The purple and gold will close out their regular season home schedule in Week 8 when they host the defending Yates Cup Champions, the McMaster Marauders, on Saturday, October 17.

The final game of the regular season for the Hawks will be on the road when they make the trip up to Kingston to take on the Queen’s Gaels.

Laurier’s two non-combatants for the 2015 season will be the Carleton Ravens and the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Season tickets for the 2015 season will go on sale shortly. Stay tuned to for complete details.
