OTTAWA (January 27, 2015) - Following their 11th consecutive victory on Saturday against Brock, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team rose one spot in the CIS Top 10 rankings and now sit fifth in the country as announced on Tuesday.
The Golden Hawks, sporting an 11-1 record on the year, also earned a first place vote in the rankings, a first for the program.
Laurier maintained their hold on top spot in the OUA with the 72-67 victory over the Badgers this past weekend but saw the No. 1 Windsor Lancers pull into a tie for first place in the conference as both teams are tied at 11-1.
After playing just once last week, the purple and gold will be in action twice this week, including Wednesday night’s home game against the Waterloo Warriors (3-10). Laurier defeated the Warriors 87-72 in their final game before the holiday break in November and have won 12 straight against their cross-town rivals. Tipoff at the Athletic Complex is set for 6 p.m.
The Hawks other game this week will be on the road against the No. 9 Lakehead Thunderwolves (9-3), their second-to-last regular season road game of the year. Head coach PAUL FALCO’s defence will be tested in that matchup as Laurier will be going up against the top scorer in the country in Jylisa Williams who is averaging 27.3 points per game.
