MBASE finishes third at OUA Championship
Laurier: 3 Waterloo: 6

HAMILTON (October 19, 2014) - The Wilfrid Laurier men's baseball team came up a little short this weekend in their quest to defend their OUA Championship.  After a 14-4 regular season, Laurier was the second seed in the six team double elimination tournament hosted by McMaster.

Laurier went 2-2 on the weekend and was eliminated by cross-town rivals, the University of Waterloo Warriors on Saturday evening after playing three games on Saturday.

The Golden Hawks end the season 23-13, good enough for the second most wins in school history.

Friday Game One - Waterloo 6 Laurier 3
Winning this game was crucial in the six team double elimination format and Laurier came out flat and made too many errors against a strong Waterloo team.

Saturday Game Two - Laurier 10 Western 0
With the loss to Waterloo, Laurier ended up on the loser side of the bracket with a long road ahead.  The Golden Hawks started off Saturday morning with a big win over Western highlighted by a Jeff Hunt grand slam in the second inning.  This game included a long delay due to a medical issue with one of the umpires. However, he is doing better after some very quick response from numerous people at the ball park.

Saturday Game Four - Waterloo 3 Laurier 0
Laurier had to rush back to Hamilton after the victory over Guelph in Burlington to play their 3rd game of the day.  Laurier got fantastic pitching from veteran Adam McBride, but the offence ran out of gas and they couldn't solve the Waterloo pitcher as the season came to an end

“The end result was not what we had hoped for at the beginning of the year," commented Head Coach SCOTT BALLANTYNE after the loss to Waterloo. “Having said that, I am extremely proud of this group of student-athletes as they played hard, respected the game and have a lot to be proud of.  We had our best regular season in school history and our 23 wins are our second most in school history.  We have the core of the team expected to return in 2015 and I expect we will be very competitive again next season."
