WATERLOO, Ont. (October 18, 2014) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team finished up their three-day Atlantic tour with a 70-48 win over the Acadia University Axewomen on Friday.
The Hawks and Axewomen looked like a good matchup in the first quarter as the two teams fought for the early lead. However, Laurier came out on top, ending the first quarter with a three-point lead and establishing a 28-21 lead by the end of the first half. Five Hawks scored at least four points in this true purple-and-gold team effort to start the game.
The second half picked up in pace and the Axewomen would not be able to keep up to the Hawks. Whitney Ellenor of Pickering, Ont., and Alexandra Spadaro of Grimsby, Ont., shone for the Hawks as they put up 14 points each in the 70-48 contest, and COURTNEY BRUCE of Orillia, Ont., also put up double figures, earning her team 11 points.
The Hawks continue exhibition play on October 24th against the Concordia University Stingers. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
