WATERLOO, Ont. (October 7, 2014) - After opening the OUA season with the victory, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey will take a break from conference play as they travel to Michigan this week to play the Michigan Wolverines and the Ferris State Bulldogs.
The Hawks, who defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 4-3 in their season-opener this past Saturday, will have their hands full as both Michigan and Ferris State find themselves in the NCAA Division I national rankings. The Wolverines sit at No. 9 while the Bulldogs are No. 8 following a 4-3 win over Michigan in their regular season opener last week.
“We will be playing against two Top 10 NCAA schools this week and it will be a challenge for us,” said head coach GREG PUHALSKI on the trip. “Both schools will play at a very high pace and to be our best, we need to skate and execute.”
Laurier will open their trip to the United States on Thursday night at legendary Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor against Michigan, the first time in school history that the Hawks have faced the Wolverines. The Hawks will then head to Big Rapids, Mich., on Friday night to battle Ferris State. The meeting will be the second all-time between the two schools after the Hawks took home a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs back in 2009-10.

The purple and gold will resume conference play on Thursday, October 16 when they take on their Highway 7 rivals, the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph.
