WATERLOO, Ont. (October 3, 2014) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team started off their pre-season play with an 80-51 win over the Bishop’s Gaitors on Friday night.
The Hawks jumped to an early lead in the first game of the non-conference schedule as they doubled-up Bishop's through the opening 10 minutes. The Gaitors returned with force in the second quarter, however, and closed in on Laurier’s lead to end the first half at a score of 30-27.
By the second half the Hawks regained control of the court as Bishop’s lost their steam. Standing out on the court were guards COURTNEY BRUCE (Orillia, Ont.) and Nicole Morrison (Hamilton, Ont.) who recorded 13 points and two assists each, followed closely by guard Sarah Dillon (Welland, Not.) with 11 points. Kaitlyn Schenck of Kitchener, Ont., and Whitney Ellenor of Pickering, Ont., also hit double figures as they finished with 10 points apiece.
The Hawks continue exhibition play on Thursday, October 9th when they host Memorial in the Athletic Complex Gym at 6 p.m.
