TORONTO (September 23, 2014) - Wilfrid Laurier men’s football running back Eric Guiltinan of London, Ont., was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 National Lacrosse League Draft by the Minnesota Swarm on Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.
Guiltinan, a multi-sport athlete who plays lacrosse in the summer with the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves, was one of 55 players selected in the six-round draft as he was picked 29th overall.
“It does not surprise me that Eric got drafted,” commented Laurier football head coach MICHAEL FAULDS. “He is an all-round great athlete and when it comes to toughness, there’s no one you want to go to battle with more. The Minnesota Swarm have just added an extremely hardworking and self-motivated person.”
Currently in his third season with the Golden Hawks, Guiltinan has been a regular dresser for Coach Faulds’ squad over the past two years, dressing in 10 of Laurier’s last 11 games. Primarily backing up Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., Guiltinan has rushed the ball 14 times during his career for 79 yards. Also a contributor on special teams, he has recorded four total tackles in coverage situation with the Hawks.
As a lacrosse player, Guiltinan has suited up the past two years with the Braves, playing in 34 games scoring six goals and adding nine assists. Last year, he helped his team finish the year with a 12-8 record, tied for third in the Ontario Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League standings.
